Abelia grandiflora, also known as large-flowered bee, is a hybrid ornamental shrub valued for the beauty of its flowers and foliage. It is the result of the cross between two species of abelia: Abelia chinensis and Abelia uniflora.

General description:

• Family: Caprifoliaceae (honeysuckle family).
• Origin: Hybrid created in Europe in the mid-nineteenth century, around 1886.
• Size: It is a small to medium-sized shrub with a height that can vary between 1.2 and 1.8 meters and a width of about 1.2-2 meters.
• Shape: It has a rounded and compact shape, with arched branches.

Foliage:

• Leaves: The leaves are persistent or semi-persistent, depending on the climate, and have an oval shape, with finely toothed edges. The leaves are usually glossy, with a dark green color in summer, and in autumn they can take on shades of bronze, red or purple.

Flowers:

• Color: The flowers are tubular and white to pale pink in color, sometimes with a slightly yellowish tint.
• Fragrance: The flowers are slightly scented, having a pleasant and delicate smell.
• Flowering period: It blooms from June to September (sometimes even until October), providing a long period of floral interest.
• Arrangement: The flowers are grouped in terminal or axillary racemes, often in bouquets of 2-3 flowers.
